The book RECONNAISSANCE was published in the fall of 2020. RECONNAISSANCE was born as a consequence of my lifelong saga with depression. I was keen to explore self-portraiture to unravel the many layers of fear, shame, denial and sadness in a world full of insecurity and judgment. I open the doors for the viewer to my safe haven in an attempt to reshape the discourse around gender, mental health and communication.
In the summer of 2019, I joined renowned photographer, Frank Armstrong for a four-week journey traveling throughout eight states from Massachusetts to Texas. Accustomed to working with human subjects, I tried to find the resemblance of human-living in places where there were more American flags than people. The 35mm panoramic format camera allowed me to compose Weary Belt, a series of images that encloses my outlook on the fatigued yet alluring landscapes of the countryside of America. Landscapes that deliberate the hidden grace of farmland, religion and nationalism.
